Interviewing and photographing Forrest J. Ackerman – the editor of Famous Monsters of Filmland who coined the term"sci-fi" – was a pure delight. Although a very frail 89 year old, as soon as I gave him a pair of fake fangs and he put on Bela Lugosi's Dracula cape and ring, Forry suddenly sprang into life and became a small boy once more! Originally the story ran in SFX, then expanded for Bizarre. I designed this book cover for McFarland to emulate the style of Famous Monsters.
